Troy Ruboyianes Tax Tips Still Haven’t Filed Your Taxes? If you have not gotten around to filing your taxes there is no need to worry. The IRS allows everyone who files for an extension an automatic 6 month extension to gather their information and file their tax return. This means that your tax return is not actually due until October 15th! In order to receive the automatic extension the taxpayer must file the proper paperwork by April 17th, 2007. I would be happy to file an extension on your behalf if you need this additional time. This service is offered to all of our clients free of charge and is done automatically for all clients that we have not heard from by April 17th. Although the extension grants additional time to file, it does not allow additional time to extend the payment of your tax. Whatever you don’t pay by April 17th will be assessed a penalty of ½ percent per month plus interest. If you do not have the money to pay the tax you should still file for an extension, because the penalty for not filing is much more severe than not paying. The penalty for failure to file for an extension is 4.5% per month. If you need me to file an extension for you, please call or email me and I will be happy to file the extension by the April 17th deadline.
